We are the data controller and we follow UK GDPR for everyone, wherever you live.

Why we need your data:

  • To run the speaking test (record your voice, score it, give feedback).
  • To show you an AI‑generated image and report based on your description.
  • To keep improving our speech‑recognition and scoring models (you can object).
  • To understand how people use our website (analytics cookies - optional).

Key rights: access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability. Email us and we'll reply within one month.

Transfers outside the UK: we use trusted providers in the US and elsewhere under Standard Contractual Clauses. Contact us if you'd like more details about these safeguards.

We have a Privacy Lead (not a statutory DPO) who oversees compliance.

2. The Personal Information We Collect and Why

Test & Audio Data

What: your voice recording (MP3), the live audio stream, a text transcript and a unique anonymous Test ID (UUID).
Why: to analyse your speech, calculate a similarity score and give real‑time feedback.
Legal basis: Performance of a contract (providing the test).

AI‑Generated Content

What: the image our AI creates from your description, the text and voice reply, and the linguistic report.
Why: to give you the full interactive experience.
Legal basis: Performance of a contract.

Optional Demographic Questions

What: native language, country, age range, occupation (only if you choose to share).
Why: aggregated statistics to improve the service.
Legal basis: Consent (totally optional).

Service Improvement & Model Training

What: voice recordings, transcripts and (if provided) demographics.
Why: to make our speech‑recognition and scoring fairer and more accurate.
Safeguards: pseudonymisation and internal access controls.
Legal basis: Legitimate interests - you can object at any time.

Website Analytics Data

What: IP address, browser details, pages visited, clicks.
Why: to keep the site reliable and improve usability.

A Note on Voice Recordings

We do not use your voice to identify who you are. We analyse what you say, not who said it.

3. Who We Share Your Personal Information With

We use carefully‑selected service providers who act under our instructions:

  • Cloud hosting & storage: Amazon Web Services (UK servers for long‑term storage).
  • Real‑time audio streaming: LiveKit.
  • Speech‑to‑text: Deepgram, ElevenLabs, OpenAI.
  • AI & machine‑learning services:
    • OpenAI - text analysis, image description, reports.
    • Fal.ai - image generation.
    • Microsoft Azure - converts the image into a numeric format (embedding) to calculate similarity.
    • ElevenLabs - generates voice replies.
  • Website analytics: Google Analytics, Hotjar.
  • App attribution (optional): Adjust (only if you click "Keep learning in the app").

All providers are under contract to keep your data secure and to use it only for our purposes. We do not sell your personal information.

4. International Data Transfers

Some providers are in countries outside the UK (mainly the United States). We protect these transfers with Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK addendum. You can contact us if you'd like more information about these safeguards.

5. How Long We Keep Your Information

  • Voice recordings & transcripts for model training: kept only while useful; reviewed at least every two years.
  • Website analytics data: Google Analytics - 14 months; Hotjar recordings - 365 days. After these periods, data is securely deleted or anonymised.

6. Automated Scoring

Your similarity score and language feedback are generated automatically by our models. These results are for informational and learning purposes; they have no legal or significant effect on you. If you'd like a human review of your score, just ask.

7. How to View, Download or Delete Your Test Data

  • Right after finishing the test, you can download your recording and results in the browser.
  • To access them later, create a Glite account and link your Test ID.
  • To delete your data, email privacy@glite.ai with your Test ID.

If you no longer have the Test ID and did not link an account, we will not be able to locate your data.

8. Your Data Protection Rights

You can:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Delete data in certain circumstances.
  • Restrict or object to processing in certain circumstances (including model‑improvement processing based on legitimate interests).
  • Port data you provided to another service.

Email privacy@glite.ai to exercise any of these rights. We will respond within one calendar month.

9. How to Complain
